![]() ![]() This feels like an overreaction to question the purpose of a project because a couple of community plugins failed, one of them being Ubisoft recently updating their API and breaking the integration. Galaxy 2.0 is great on its own, it really is the marketing people that sent out a false message, or gave the wrong impression to make it misleading. Had Galaxy 2.0 been marketed as 'with official integration for Xbox, and possible future official integration with other store fonts/platforms' or something similar, there wouldn't be an issue. My issue is with GOG's/CDPR's marketing team. What's your view on Galaxy 2.0 - am I alone in thinking this, or is there community consensus?ĮDIT: I would like to add, I have admiration for CDPR and the GOG team - the latter presented a threat to Steam in a positive way and DRM-free options are excellent. ![]() Given CDPR's very obvious lack of interest in supporting the primary marketed feature of GOG Galaxy 2.0, and community integrations not being effective (although I thank the developers who've put time into them) with the main companies able to remove API features/access without warning at any time I then connected Origin and found the experience the same.Ĭonclusion & DiscussionHowever, in less than two minutes, Ubisoft Connect - somewhat ironically - disconnected and the reconnect option sustained the connection for a few seconds at a time. Games were there, the layout looked great, the application was responsive, and it seemed like a good solution. I tried Ubisoft Connect first and was amazed at how well it seemed to work. Still, I thought I'd try one out and checked the code - nothing looked suspicious (I work with python in FOSS on a regular basis) and I don't believe any of them are. I read a forum post by GOG/CDPR essentially saying that it washes its hands of community integrations. I then noticed the useful integrations were open-source 'community integrations' and found that odd, considering the marketing. It was then I started to look at integrating accounts (Origin, Ubisoft Connect (it's been so long that when I last use Ubisoft's client, it was still called uPlay), etc.) that I'd not used in years because of the hassle of having multiple pieces of software doing the same thing. Galaxy 2.0Moving forward a few months and I finally downloaded Galaxy 2.0, installed it, and thought the layout looked great. I was incredibly excited about it to the point where I built a new PC (5900X/RTX 3080) that could handle games I own with the intention of using GOG Galaxy 2.0 and Steam (Steam for Steam, and Galaxy for everything else). GOG Galaxy 2.0 was marketed as the way to solve that by integrating all mainstream platforms into a single interface. Flair Selector: Flair NameĬontextI've used Steam for 17 years and seen it progress over time, but also seen EA, Ubisoft, Epic, Microsoft and others create their own applications, meaning to play the games I've purchased I have to log in to five+ different platforms.
